General Description:
The resort of Skanes with its seemingly endless sandy beach has been welcoming British holidaymakers for many years. As a suburb of its more famous neighbour Monastir, Skanes is ideal for holidaymakers seeking a relaxing beach holiday.
What to see:
Monastir: Inside the Ribat you will find a Museum of Islamic Arts housing superb manuscripts, exquisite ancient textiles, glassware, pottery and miniatures from different periods. The Bourguiba Mausoleum is an amazing building, a twin-towered gold-domed memorial tribute to the former president. The contemporary Bourguiba Mosque, built in traditional style in 1963, is a sophisticated building and a fine example of modern Tunisian architecture.
Where to go:
Close by is Sousse with its old Medina and important port, which is easily reached by a train service from Monastir.
Kairouan, the capital of the Aghlabid dynasty with its great mosque and El Djem with its gigantic Roman amphitheatre are both within easy travelling distance.
Golf:
In the resort of Skanes you will find the Palm Links Golf Club - an 18-hole course with superb club house providing an interesting challenge for the tourist golfer. Ten minutes further away is the established and challenging 18-hole Par 72 Flamingo Golf Club designed by Ronald Fream, attracting all levels of players. Tee-off times and green fees can be arranged in the UK prior to your departure.
